What defines professional microloc work?

• Clean, intentional sectioning and a consistent grid.
• Loc sizing that reflects your client’s hair density, strand size, and desired result.
• Consistent execution of the selected installation method.
• Ongoing care and maintenance as the locs mature.

Small size alone does not guarantee healthy, consistent results. This course emphasizes planning, technique, practice, and ongoing care.

Starting methods

The hands-on installation module teaches interlocking, two-strand twists, and braidlocs. Coils are another starting option you may encounter, but they are not one of the three installation methods required for this course’s mannequin practical.

Assessment comes before installation

Assess each client individually. Curl pattern alone is not enough: consider hair density, strand size, length, condition, lifestyle, and goals before choosing a method. Detailed assessment and method selection are covered in later modules.

Size, loc count, and time

Planned section size, scalp area, and grid layout affect the total loc count. Hair density helps guide an appropriate section size and the amount of hair supporting each loc. Do not guarantee a specific count from a reference photo.

Smaller locs do not automatically mean faster installation or easier upkeep. Installation time depends on the planned sections, method, hair, and the work involved. Microlocs offer versatility, but they still require consistent maintenance and proper technique.
